McManis LGB Rail Gun
Here are two pictures of the completed rail gun mounted on the LGB flat car. It is built so that it
can be pulled by a train and will clear all standard tunnels and bridges when the barrel is lowered to the travel position.
The carriage is bassically the same as that for the anti-aircraft gun.l I made the sheet metal
plate that rotates and allows elevation and just put it on the flat car and added the armor and loading platform.
The brass shells are turned on a lathe. I should paint up a boxcar to follow it as in practice, there were support cars carring
equipment, rounds and powder.
I also built an "exploding" wharehouse using the mousetrap firing mechanism system and it
disintegrates very nicely when you pull the trip wire. Whereas the original exploding outhouse
requires only one mousetrap, the warehouse utilizes four of them. The original rail guns often took some time to get their
rounds to the target so it is best to fire the cannon on one side of the layout and wait tow or three seconds before tripping the warehouse.
